Review: Made For Us

Title: Made For Us
Author: Polly Owen
Illustrator: Daniel Duncan
Age: 6-7

My kids and I love anything to do with inventions and diversity, so we were especially excited to receive a copy of a book that combines both! Made for Us showcases inventions that many of us take for granted, but which benefit a broad range of people with disabilities, such as dropped kerbs, accessible playground equipment and closed captions.

Nestled between the descriptions of useful modern innovations there are also brief biographies of some of the people who invented them, ranging from disability rights activist Judith Heumann to Louis Braille, the inventor of the braille reading system

The friendly illustrations make the book even more fun to read, and a helpful glossary at the back explains some of the more difficult words. This is a book that is designed for independent readers, but can also be enjoyed as a family (and I learnt some interesting facts from it myself!).

Made For Us is part of the OUP readerful scheme (Level 11, Book Band Lime) and was released on 1st February 2024. Many thanks to Polly Owen and  OUP for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.
