SHOWerTIME – My Entry for the #50PreciousWords Writing Contest!

It’s contest time again! Below is my entry for Vivian Kirkfield’s #50PreciousWords 2021. The challenge is to write a story for children in only 50 words or less.

But first, a bit about what motivated me to write it: You’ve probably noticed there are hundreds of great picture books and board books on the topic of bathtime. A quick search brings up whole lists of them (I personally recommend this selection of Most-Loved Children’s Books about Bath Time on the parenting blog Sleeping Should Be Easy!).

So, what’s the problem? Well, like many families today, especially those who live in apartments, we don’t have a bathtub – only a shower. But does that stop the kids from having fun when it’s time to wash? No way! They doodle in the condensation on the walls, pretend the shower head is a microphone, play with the same eclectic mix of toys, squeezies, pots and pans as they would in a bath… etc.!

So my contest entry is for all the kids out there who know how to have a good time… at showertime!

SHOWerTIME!

Water spraying, time for playing!
Rubber ducky, pots and pans.
Splishing, spurting, splashing, squirting,
grab the mic and greet your fans!

“Encore! Encore!” spectators roar,
as rainbow bubbles gleam – sublime!
Swishing, swashing, scrubbing, washing,
Everyone loves SHOWerTIME!

  1. Kids like anything to do with water. Showers are no exception. A playful 5 minutes turns into much longer fun time.
